Whether you are calling it Deep, Dark or Disco House, there is no denying the surge in devout followers of Dance music’s more mature floor fuel. Valencian visionary of the alternative floor-filler Eric Estornel, better known under the guise of Maceo Plex, has well and truly mastered the art amid the bandwagon beatniks and intrepid Indie crossovers. As an ongoing favourite at Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebel’s imprint, Estornel returns with formative stamina after a brief hiatus from the label with Frisky. 

Reassuringly, little has changed as far as his melodic resonance and superior ambient properties are concerned.Still dealing in subtle lead play and swooping low end chords, the deep canvas to which A-Side ‘Frisky’ is laced makes for familiar yet formative action from the Spanish producer. Chugging and rising in all the right places, Estornel’s essential Miami weapon makes for a poignant floor filler with solid force. Taking the Nu Disco concept to a sturdy high within B-Side ‘Sex Appeal’, the tracks apt charge in stamina marks a standout second half to this overtly essential injection of Electronic artistry, utilising a sleek top line alongside the tracks unfathomable upbeat edge. . 

We can allow YouTube to host the various arguments over style and genre, but where the world needs less categorisation and more affirmative creativity, it certainly needs more music with the honest studio dexterity that Maceo Plex and his peers at Crosstown Rebels continue to deal in with persuasive consistency.
