Ben Preston – Parallelism EP

From the bowels of Surrey’s inherently middle-class mindset, firm Progressive contender Ben Preston has emerged with all guns blazing. Already raking signings for the likes of Black Hole and Armada Records, his new EP for Be Yourself offshoot In Charge is enough to rank just why the likes of Carl Cox and Armin Van Buuren have been paying close attention to the young Guildfordian.

Leading lady and heavy-set Progressive House outing Parallelism follows the familiar typecast associated with the genre, but manages to break the mould with inherent force. From the downtime of its midway point to its inevitable apex of solid leads and tectonic beats, there is a sense that Preston is out to amalgamate and for once, it works without a single awkward note. Closer to his deeper Trance roots, Octagon brings things to a slower stance, but does not fail to lace deep-set melodic progressions and aptly entrancing atmospherics into the equation.

Amid the post-Miami buzz, it is refreshing to see yet more promising talent emerge from a kingdom not quite as united in their love for Electronic music as their European peers. With folk like Preston on hand, however, the cause is most certainly not lost.
